  31. I wasn't talking raw processing power. I was talking about usability and
  32. multitasking. If I am running Netscape, most programs either refuse to
  33. run or will GPF the system. There are several bugs in Netscape that
  34. allow this, but I was using a literary term called a hyperbole, except
  35. that it wasn't a gross exaggeration. I load up PhotoChop and watch
  36. as I can no longer run anything else. I run GroupWise and, well, nothing
  37. else at all. 
  38.    The problem I am referring to is a simple little RAM
  39. limitation. It is not the 48M, it is the 640K. Being on a network, much
  40. of my 640K is already used up. I fire up Windoze and lose the rest. I
  41. use PC's at work. I ENJOY coming home to my 14Mhz A1200 because it is
  42. faster to use. The machine starts up faster. The windows draw faster.
  43. The programs load faster. The jpegs load slower. The archives
  44. compress/decompress slower. I live with that, and I would LOVE to have a
  45. faster processor. Even without the fast processor, my machine is fast.
  46. If I had a fast processor, then look out! Have you ever just double
  47. clicked on the WordIMPerfect icon and sat back and watched? On anything
  48. less than a Pentium, it is enough time to get a cup of coffee and enjoy
  49. it. WordIMPerfect is a HUGE program that does not do anything, anything
  50. worthwhile that is. My wife uses a 386SuX16 at work and you should see
  51. WordIMPerfect scream (in agony that is). I have yet to see any Amiga
  52. application as memory hungry as the typical Windoze program. Even
  53. Lightwave(Amiga) uses less memory than does WordIMPerfect or PhotoChop!
  54. I would hate to see Lightwave on a Windoze machine.
  55.    To sum it all up, my A1200@14Mhz can run faster within less ram
  56. in practical running situations than the Pentium I use at work, but the
  57. Pentium will trounce my A1200 in raw power any day. I would love to have a 
  58. processor set up like the $1.3Million server I saw the other day (8 DEC 
  59. Alphas@300Mhz and half a gig of RAM etc.), but it is a little out of my
  60. butget range. Even the 68030 accellerators are out of my budget right now!
